Obtaining a Bookmakers' Licence is one of the hardest tasks in the Racing Industry.

Prospective Bookmakers must be approved by the Victorian Government (The Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation "VCGR"), licensed by the Racing Industry and guaranteed by the Victorian Bookmakers' Association Limited under Government legislation. Each of these authorities carefully examine each applicant's character, experience and financial status.

Before providing a Bookmaking guarantee, the V.B.A. also requires each Bookmaker to lodge a security deposit.

Having passed this scrutiny and armed with a V.B.A. guarantee, the Bookmaker is then licensed to operate in Victoria. This strict financial probity requirements ensuring that betting with Bookmakers is a totally secure and respected profession.

Currently there are female Bookmakers registered in Victoria, hopefully more women will show interest and apply to become Bookmakers.
